You could even hit 4.3-4.5GHz on the stock heatsink -- Sandy Bridge is that awesome.

That's excellent.

So would it be worth spending extra money and upgrading the CPU cooling. I know you said it's the best $30 I could spend, but I see others recommending other choices like the NH-D14 (3x as much), h70, silver arrow, a70 etc. With the a70 being the only one similarly priced.

Just wondering if any of those are worth putting extra money into?

I am VERY partial to the Zalman I have on the 1055t x6 in my server. It performs on par with an H50.

If you're going air, get the Noctua. If you're considering the H70, get a RASA 240 or 360 kit. A little more setup and maintenance needed but better performance. I got an H70 but now regret that decision. Don't get me wrong, it works well. But there is better for the money.

Thanks Cyborg you've been so much help. I'll edit that on my build. I hear alot about the noctua's size being a problem. Do you foresee there being a problem fitting in the storm scout's case with this setup?

No problem.

It fits in the scout as long as you don't have any side fans-

may i ask why youre grabbing the asrock instead?

silver arrow is on sale, might save you some money. performance between nhd14 and silver arrow is 1-2c

id skip the ripjawx and get any 8gb ram with adequate timings. 1333mhz would even do fine in this situation. with SB, there isnt that much of a difference between ram.

but, prices with ram is odd, and you might not even be saving that much money if you switch it.

I'll have to check to see what i can save with switching the ram.

I switched the board due to hearing good things about the Asrock being the best price/performance....and hearing issues with p8p67's. I also started a thread recently here and seemed to get recommended it as well

http://www.overclock.net/intel-mothe...sus-p8p67.html

Thanks for pointing that out about the silver arrow that is a deal!....only concerns i have with it is hearing about clearance issues with ram. Although the noctua's size is large as well. And i have read of better performance with the silver arrow. So i'm completely open to switching that.

I'm completely open to any ideas you have about my whole build. I'm going to be pulling the trigger on everything as soon as the new boards wind up on newegg.

And I want to make sure i'm doing the right thing seeing the board needs to last for a few years with the only likely upgrades going to be an SSD and an ivy bridge socket 1155 processor.

Thanks!

EDIT: is that SA compatible with 1155? It doesnt list the socket on the directron site

anything that is compatible with 1156 is compatible with 1155, same mounting positions.;

i've never had an asrock board, but was considering it for my build, but went with the pro instead.

i'm not having any issues, and it performs fine.

also, big and fancy heatspreaders on ram isnt needed and so is the fan. so, id rather have clearance for the arrow than to have some big ram with a fan.
