Thermal paste question

post #1 of 7
Thread Starter
I recently took out the CPU fan, cleaned it, and replaced the paste in my sig rig. I was wondering, does the thermal grease (Arctic Silver 5 in this instance) need time to "settle" or "burn in" before it works to it's full potential?

Short answer is yes...after you turn the PC off, let it cool, and turn it back on a few times. AS5 will "cook" in just a few hours of use

like =Digger= said yes,just run ITB,OCCT,or Prime95 for a few hours.that will do it.

AS5 requires much longer curing time, 200+ hours...

Might want to look through this http://www.arcticsilver.com/pdf/appm...e_dot_v1.1.pdf
It may take several runs to actually cure the AS5, but yes your max temps will decrease maybe 2-3c in time.

Normal computer usage for approximately 8 days will settle the TIM no problem.
