Sound Card, ATI, and Reciever HDMI Question

So before I used onboard sound optical then I upgraded to a Forte and boom huge sound quality increase. My forte died so I got a HT Omega Claro Halo. Now I have a very nice Reciever and Speakers/Subwoofer.

My question (Correct me if i'm wrong) is this that sound cards only have 2 Channel DACS built in, which makes me think the compressed 5.1/7.1 is upscaled. It is also limited to Dolby Digital and DTS Neo 6.

With newer GPUS HDMI Sound cards are being built in.

Now using HDMI from my GPU and connecting to my reciever I am using my Recievers audio decoders and DACS correct? Which would in turn give better audio quality over my sound card and give me access to Dolby True HD and DTS HD tracks on my Blu-ray movies?
