Woohoo, just unlocked!

Alright, so now my CPU Z is saying I have a Phenom II x4 b40, I have a few questions. Will there be an issue with the stock anthlon x3 cooling? Also, what stress tests should I run?

Anytime you take an x3 to an x4 with an unlock temperatures don't display correctly anymore, so you have to play it safe, really. Stress test depends on your preferences. I really like Prime95. I run blend on Prime95, and if it's stable for 12 hours, it's 24/7 in my book.

The stock cooling should be fine as long as you don't overclock.

I bought two x3 rana for systems I was building, one unlocked and the other didn't. Well, it did but crashed Windows as soon as the login screen came up.

Just do the usual benchmarks and if it doesn't crash or give you errors, you'll probably be fine.

Congrats on the free core BTW.

Remember, not all unlocked CPUs will be stable. Best of luck, hope yours ends up being stable.

It booted again presumably?

It means your computer was unstable, most likely due to the unlocked core. You could try giving it one little bump in voltage and trying again, but be careful since you're on the stock cooler.

Yes, it booted fine. Woa, the moment I started to type this, the screen flickered. What issues could become if the core stays unlocked?
