Recent storage failures making me RAGE!!!

Thread Starter
I have 3 drives.

1 OCZ Agility 2 60GB SSD (6 months old)
2 Maxtor 500GB 7200RPM HDD (1yr old)
3 Samsung 250GB (3yrs old)

Today i got BSOD. Windows failed to start after that. While trying examining what caused the problem, i got this message right after BIOS screen: "Bootmgr cannot be found. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart..." Fool! you were working fine 2 mins ago... said i but futile...

Anyway played with some features in BIOS like disabling enabling AHCI and tried turning the rig off, swapping the sata ports, removing drivers one by one... Somehow i managed to make it boot proper again pheeew. But wait... i typed my password at login and now it's taking ages to load the desktop.... then another BSOD appears "0x00000F4" (if i remember the code correct).

Inserted Windows 7 DVD for a fresh install. But Windows setup refused to see the SSD...!!! Turned the rig off, removed the SSD,turned it on, let it work like that for a few mins and plugged SSD in again. Setup recognized the SSD drive this time. Installed Windows, ran a HD Tune Error test to be sure and dang PC froze while the position was showing "11GB". Did it several times to be sure and it frooze at 11GB everytime i tried.

Then formatted SSD, installed the Windows on Maxtor 500GB drive. Used the SSD as secondary drive. Ran the error test again, froze at 11GB.

I recently updated Firmware to 1.29. According to OCZ that firmware is for Vertex 2, Agility 2 and couple of other other models so i'm pretty sure that was the right one for my SSD. But maybe it caused malfunction in my SSD? Maybe OCZ did a mistake in firmware design? Anyone running fine on 1.29 firnware? Or maybe i couldn't flash the firmware properly. What i did was downloading the firmware update tool from OCZ, selecting drive and clicking the update button, restarting PC, running the error test, but it froze at 11GB.

I really don't remember my SSD ever caused these problems before. Do you think firmware update caused this? I'm defnetly RMAing this SSD.

Out of curiosity, i did some error testing to my Maxtor drive then i saw this:

Now i have one broken SSD and one HDD with bad sector. An hour ago my rig was running happily. (truth is i think it was running happily but it still had these errors lol)

I work at a datacenter, and out of past experience, Maxtor drives are complete ****.

As for the SSD, it's possible the firmware update did it. Check out the OCZ forums and see if anyone is experiencing similar issues.

Ive worked in a Datacenter and IT for several years and I agree.
Maxtor drives are not the kind of thing you want to rely on for storage of anything but non-essential data.
Build a rig for cheap, put a Maxtor in for a few weeks, clone the data over to a Western Digital or Seagate ASAP.

And definitley check the OCZ site. That looks like a firmware screw up.

I ran CHKDSK on my Maxtor drive and the damaged block looks fine (green) now. Umm interesting.

When it comes to my SSD, i'll send it to RMA. When it arrives from RMA, i'll sell it, add cash and buy me a new Vertex 2 60GB.
