Just bought a new netbook...

Hey there, I just bought the HP Mini netbook computer from best buy today and so far I love this little thing however i'm wondering if I overpayed for it. The specs are:
Intel Dual Core Atom (1.5 ghz, 1mb cache)
1 gb DDR3 ram
250 gb harddrive (7200 rpm)
Integrated video card
8.5 hours of battery life (6 cell battery)
3x 2.0 usb ports
VGA output
memory card reader

And for all this i payed 399$ CAD.

However, there is another netbook made by acer which is about $150 cheaper with almost similar specs (mine has a faster harddrive, a little bit more battery life, 512kb more cache, better resolution). The link is-

So i'm wondering if i should switch to the acer or just keep the hp mini.
And basically all i'll be using this laptop for is programming (C) , reading notes, taking notes, and watching a little bit of movies and such.

That's a pretty decent deal. Bestbuy is usually slightly overpriced however.

If you dont mind the slightly lower resolution, I would switch. The cpu speed is negligible, the battery life is negligible, the HDD being slower wont make a huge difference in a netbook, and if your unhappy with its speed, throw in a cheap ssd and some new ram and it will be around the price of the hp but perform way better.

How come the battery life is neglibile? i get 7 hours easily with wifi turned off on the netbook I have currently.
Battery life means the most to me which is why I switched to a netbook.
If i took the acer that means I would usually have to carry around the ac adapter, but if its worth the $150 then I would do it..

Thats where I got confused

Because the systems are more or less identical, so the battery life will be the same no matter what numbers they tell you (which are usually lies).

you should be abandoning either option and get an amd netbook running fusion for better performance

you get better bang for the buck with this

The acer he listed will out perform the ones you found, but will have less battery life due to the higher performance (which is expected)

It states 6 hours, which usually means around 4.5-5 hrs on normal usage, which is exactly what I need, and it is still cheaper than the hp.
