R.A.T. 3 vs Abyssus vs MX518

Thread Starter
Hello fellow overclockers,
Lately I've been meaning to purchase a gaming mouse and the 3 aforementioned really caught my interest.

I'm 6' and have somewhat lengthy hands. Using a Microsoft wired optical as of right now.

Pros & cons? Past experiences?

MX 518 would be the best of that bunch, luckily for you it's on sale for an awesome price. The only con about that mouse is that it has a little bit of mouse correction, which means it tries to force straight lines. Hasn't stopped top players from winning tournaments with it tho.

Kinda depends on what kind of grip you use. If you palm your mice, MX 518 is quite good.

If, on the other hand, you use claw or fingertip grips (or anything else beside a full palm) you might find it uncomfortable.

I kind of go "claw" with my hand. The RAT 3 surely does look good but would it be too tiny for my hands? And the Abyssus? I just don't like the simple looks of the MX518.

The RAT also has 3200dpi as opposed to the MX518's 1500 (or 1800?).

DPI means nothing.

Assuming you're on a "normal size" monitor. DPI really doesn't mean too much but 1500 and 1800 is kind of low. I use/play at 1500 and that would really leave me no room for increasing on the mx518. The RAT is really accommodating to claw grip but I really don't think going the RAT 3 route would be a good idea if you were getting a RAT. The RAT 3 isn't adjustable width or length wise which might not suit your big hands (it also doesn't have the programmable side scroll wheel). At minimum you should get the RAT 5 but it looks like you're trying to go a little lower on the price range. I use a RAT 7 personally and love it but you have to be willing to go up a step on price range to get the 5 or 7.

MX518 for me, with 7 inch long hands, is a bit small. For my mom with her 5.5 inch-ish hands, is huge. 6-6.5 inch-ish is almost perfect for it.
