GTX 480: Is my card bad?

Hello,

I was playing around with my GPU's OC settings 'cause I've started playing RIFT and wanted to push a little more performance out of her, and I'm just wondering if my settings are standard, or just incredibly low for this card.

I use MSI Afterburner to manage fan speed and clocks, settings:

Core Voltage: 1125
Core Clock: 810
Shader Clock: 1620
Memory Clock: 1900

Fan is set to auto scale based on my settings, when it starts getting near 80 it pumps up to 100 and scales exponentially down from there.

Now, I've tried 900, and even 910. I passed the furmark (I use kombustor) with no artifacting or stuttering, but every time I try to run 3Dmark11 with a setting higher than 810/1620 it locks up either in the middle of test 1 or test 2. I've also had BSODs from secondary processor malfunctions (I don't recall the exact error) which if I am to understand correctly can be due to the GPU. I never had this error before I used 3Dmark 11, and I haven't gotten it when prime95ing my CPU.

I've fully uninstalled and reinstalled my drivers (266.77 and 266.58, both had the problem, I'm running 266.77 right now) multiple times and updated my chipset drivers.

So, is this normal? Does it denote a bad card? Thank you for your time.

Maybe you pushing the card a little hard. Why risk ruining your card. Just keep it around those clocks you posted, Things like 900-910 is too much. ITs fast enough if your not happy with it just get a 2nd gtx480.

Mine are at 1.125 815-2100 and have never had slow down or issues. Better safe then sorry

Alright thanks for the input. 2100 memory?

I've been thinking about getting a second 480 to SLI, since that's technically like having 4 cards in 2 PCIE slots (unless I'm direly mistaken, which I could be). Would be a lot cheaper than buying a couple of 580s, but I don't think I want the 3-4 miles within distance of my computer to be summer year round. D:

Whether you overclock the memory makes little or no difference in terms of performance in these cards. Because I am a obsessive person I set mine at a nice round number of 1950, but it really doesn't matter.

THe thing about these cards is that they are very sensitive to temperature, above 90 degrees they tend to artifact with otherwise "stable" voltages. Also run OCCT for stability, there are very few programs that will crash a card if it can go through even 5 minutes of OCCT without crashing.

My temperatures are for the most part pretty good. It doesn't go above 70 with furmark. I'll try out OCCT and see what happens.

You cannot say that a card is "bad" unless it malfunctions at stock clocks, there is no guarantee implied or expressed that the card will function at even 1 MHZ above how it comes from the factory.
