5850xfire or...

Thread Starter
Alrite I just bought the game rift and am gettting 19fps on max settings, but luckily I was born early march so the g/f gets to help with a new video card... So I have a non ref xfx 5850, I am concidering buying another 5850 to xfire, but am wondering if it would just be better to get a 6950 and stick with single card.

Also I have a couple questions regaurding cards
1. If I get another 5850 and have it non reference, can I overclock them to different clocks and see an advantage?

2. Will my 965 @ 3.7 bottleneck either xfire 5850s or a 6950?

If you have any other suggestions, other then switching to Nvid, please feel free to post. Thank you for your time and responses!!

Also, how do I know what 6950s are reference for voltage overclocks? Please link any suggestions

I would go for the 6950 reference, you can flash it to a 6970. Great price/performance ratio there. And your CPU will be fine. Later on, you can add another for CF. the 6xxx series do really well in crossfire.

I just got a second 5850, reference, and I saw a huge fps boost. I was able to get mine for 150. I say do crossfire for now, and upgrade to the 7 series later. You will get a nice boost for a pretty small price.

How do you know which cards are reference? my xfx is a non ref, but I only know because I can not volt unlock it. I was leaning towards 6950 because I wouldnt mind adding my card to my loop, where as buying blocks for 2 5850s would be a bit much... From what I am understanding the 5850s xfired have better performance then unlocked, overclocked 6950s.... Any more input would be much appreciated.. Thanks again

Rift does not like Crossfire, and there's a performance issue with ATI cards.

Problem might be resolved in the final version, I don't know. But even a 5850 should be able to run Rift at better frames.

My single 5850 is at 775/1125, CPU is at 3.6 currently, and I get 16-19fps on average...

I was playing beta rift like a week ago, was using 2 sapphire 6850 1gb in crossfire without any problem and seen no weakness or lag to the game.

Crossfire works
