Strange overheating problem

Thread Starter
I have been having problems trying to upgrade my graphics card from a 8800gt. For some reason any card i try to run in my main pci x16 slot will over heat pretty badly. I first bought a gtx 470 and it would reaches temps of 105c in about a minute and a half. I sent that card in for an rma and got another one but it did pretty much the exact same thing. So I sent that card in for a refund now now i have 2 6850's in crossfire. When I stress test them using furmark, my master card will reach 100c in less than 5 minutes while my slave card will usually be in the upper 80's. Even while playing BC 2 my master card got up to almost 105c after a little while of playing. I know its not an air flow problem because I have tried blowing a house fan directly into my case and there is hardly a change. I am also almost certain that its not a problem with the cards, but at the same time back when i had one of the 470's I tried it in a different computer and it overheated just as fast as in mine. I am just completely at a loss of why this is happening now, I would be really grateful if someone could help me find a solution.

The number of case fans doesn't necessarily mean that hot spots are receiving cool air. What case do you have? It could be there's adequate air movement, but not where it's needed. It could also be that the hot exhaust from the 470 is not exhausting out of the case, but is recirculating back into the card's intake.

That PSU is from 2005? I think it might be your problem.

Could you be more spesific about the PSU, please.

Your case looks super restrictive. What fans have you got running in it?

The case isn't the problem. Seems unbelievable that even a poor case can make the GPU go that hot.
