Buzzing is driving me nuts!

Thread Starter
Ok here's the story. Whenever I go into 3d mode to play say BC2, I get some nice buzzing noise from my system. So then I replaced my PSU with a new seasonic psu 750x gold. Buzzing still their. Then I replaced my video card, with 3 difference ones. A ati 6870, 6950 and a GTX560. Again the buzzing noise is still their. So then I change motherboards, from a Asus P67 Pro to a Msi P67. And again the buzzing is still their!! I then tried a different PSU and yet again the buzzing is still their. I also tried different power cords and outlets, nothing has gotten rid of the buzzing. I even changed my CPU heatsink that did nothing. The only thing I did not change was the CPU itself a Intel I7 2600K. Oh and I also disabled all the power saving stuff in the bios as well. My system is now out of its case and sitting on top of my desk and the buzzing is still their even without being in a case. I removed my sound card and it still buzzing while going into 3d mode. Could it be the CPU itself or maybe the P67 chipset???? I'm at a loss here...

That sounds like "cap whine". Perfectly normal if that's what it is .

Is it coming from your hard drive? It could possibly your household power supply, you may be having bad power coming into your home. Are any other electronic devices malfunctioning?

Wow, that's a great deal of effort you have gone to.

It is very unlikely that it is the CPU.

But the only two components left are the CPU and the HDD.

Can you not try and locate the noise accurately now that it is out of the case?

My Hard drive is an ssd crucial c300, that's dead silent. And when I put my ear to it, I could swear its coming from the video card. I have tried at least 3 difference cables and 4 difference outlets in the house. I'm hoping if I get the Fractal R3 that the noise dampening material in it will cover most of that buzzing...

Why did you choose a "gold" rated PSU? They are notorious for the problem you are experiencing. If you read the reviews on Newegg you will see the major complaint (aside from DOA) of most "gold" PSUs is buzzing.....aka "cap whine". Unfortunately this is one of the trade offs that comes with high efficiency.

There are 2 things that buzz in my PC. My 570 when it is under load, and the Pump on my H50. I have gotten pretty used to both. My old ATI 5850 did not buzz

Sounds like PSU, same thing is happening to me! I need to RMA it - it's actually getting worse and beginning to affect performance - it's quite scary!

COULD be graphics card, you'd need to open the case and listen closely. Either way it's a strong enough reason to have it replaced, which is what i would suggest once you narrowed down the problem!

A faulty PSU is the one thing that no rig builder wants - look to get it sorted rather than trying to cover up the problem!
