Worth upgrading from GTX 260 to 5850? Pros/Cons? Noticeable performance boost?

Hey there

So recently a friend of mine mentioned wanting to upgrade his GPU. Seeing as how my GTX 260 would be a nice jump for him, I was playing around with the idea of a GPU upgrade for myself.

I was thinking of a 5850 as an upgrade. I've been planning a U2311H monitor purchase and think Eyefinity might be fun to play with. A friend of mine told me that Nvidia Surround on the 400 series is poorly implemented (any truth to this statement?), hence me focusing on ATI.

What sort of performance boost will I see coming from my GTX 260? Would the 5850 be powerful enough to run three 1920x1080 monitors in Eyefinity? What other cards should I be considering? Any truth to the "GeForce 400 Nvidia Surround sucks" thing my friend told me? I'd like to keep it under $200 for a used card (all my PC equip is bought used). Also, what brands should I focus on? I know about XFX's whole issue with the 4890s; do they still have QC issues with the 5000 series?

For reference, current games I play are BFBC2, L4D, and Company of Heroes with BF3, ME3, DA 2, and TES V Skyrim as games I intend to play in the future. DX11 will be used when possible.

Yea, I know this is all pretty noobish, but I've been out of the PC game for a while (Points to sig) and need some help with this. Thanks

I would shoot for a 6950 and flash it to a 6970......

If you did upgrade to a 5850...you would see roughly the performance of a 4850X2... and when OCed is 3-4% off of performance of a 5870....

Since a 4870X2 and 5870 seem ALMOST equal in terms of perfomance...you should see a marked increase in performance...

The 6950 2GB version with unlocked shaders seems to be the best bet if you plan on going with tri monitor gaming...otherwise you would need TWO Nvidia cards for it, as compared to a single one with ATI/AMD... the 2GB of VRAM should allow you use eyefinity with little issue..
