Temps for i7 950 very high

I run prime95 for 5 seconds and Im already at 100*C, I have the stock cooler on at the moment waiting for CM to send me a bracket for my V6GT, should be here monday.. could something be wrong with the processor or something? Its at about 43*C Idle right now with a max temp of 51*C

oh and I have NOT changed the voltages or anything, I just took the i7 930 out and put the 950 in, I didnt OC the 930 either

re-tim and re-seat the stock cooler

+1, stock cooler is bad but not that bad

Your cooler is not mounted correctly or you applied the thermal paste wrong...

You should put a small dot in the center of the cpu, about the size of a grain of rice and then put the cooler on...

Make sure both are clean when you do it, us some rubbing alcohol (91%) and a paper towel to clean both

this method doesn't work too well with a stock cooler, I did a build for a friend and all he had was the stock cooler, did the tim like you mentioned above and he had terrible temps. I then re-seated it by spreading a thin layer of tim with an inside out plastic baggie and it worked fine.

I got CoolerMaster High Performace thermal compound HTK-002 the last time I went to the microcenter, I was going to wait until I got the bracket for my cooler to install it, is this good thermal paste?

...Did you use that in addition with the preapplied TIM on the stock cooler?

never heard of the paste but im sure its better then intel's stock paste
