well, i read somewhere, maybe in tom's i can't remember, that the 590 would be 2 GF110s a little underclocked so it wouldn't exceed the 250W thermal envelope, hence my previous statement.
I need upgrades

The chips that will be in the 590 will be cherry-picked for lower heat leakage.
Kind of like the TWKR AMD chips; but the opposite as the TWKR were designed to be under LN2.

Seek counseling, your setup as it sits is just fine.

a 580 would be just fine

so will a 590

I know what its like to get bit by the bug, but seriously...we all overdo it haha..massively, to a point where our gear doesn't even make sense if your using it just for gaming.

aha but seriously, just buy a 580 and keep it, or wait.

honestly I'd ride your setup into a whole other generation of cards.

Id say get two gtx580 for sli, they will pwn a gtx590

Yeah, i understand that, but cooling down a single GTX580 is not an easy task. Even if the chips turn out to be surprisingly efficient, so the cooling method would be. I'm very curious to see what the GTX590 will be capable of, and i really hope it will deliver the power it promises, but a dual card setup seems to be more logical to me still, unless someone wants to SLI GTX590s

I had crossfired hd5970s and they pwned, but one gtx580 is pretty much better in most applications and imo the gtx580s run smoother then the hd 5970, plus the 580s run cooler. and the gtx590 is going to be a hot card so imagine if you only have 2 pci-e slots, there going to run to hot.

like for both the 5970s and 580s i had to run them in the 1st and 3rd pci-e slot because they ran to hot side by side

The performance

The GTX 590 won't really be 2x 580's on one PCB -- It'll be between 570/560 hybrid or MAYBE 580/570 hybrid

EDIT: The cards would also be a little cooler (even though total heat output would be higher)

and they would overclock a little bit better than just a dual GPU card.

The only thing you'd really be saving is a little bit of cost/convenience and power -- But lose in the performance area

2x580 will have better performance than a single 590.

a) Power handling, 2 580's are using 2 pcie lanes and 4x8 power connectors
b) Cooling, independent cooling for each gpu
c) Full overclock potential ...

Try overclocking a GTX590 like a 580... i doubt that a single pcie lane and 2x8 connectors will allow the same OC than a single GTX580 Powering 2 Gpus on a single pcie lane with 2x8 connectors its not a piece of cake

Also, my guess is that the power throttling used by Nvidia will be a extremely important factor on limiting the TDP of these babies

Well i've been w8 for the 590 ... ended up getting a 580 Direct CU II ... clocked the gpu to 975Mhz ... really nice piece of hardware and amazingly cool ...

buy an evga GTX 580, and step up when GTX 590 comes out
