Help maximizing my E8400 overclock please?

MoBo: Gigabyte EP45-UD3P
RAM: Corsair XMS 6400C5 (2x2GB 800MHz)

I know the RAM will be what holds me back, so I'm really trying to figure out the most efficient way to maximize my RAM speed.

Right now I have this:
http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1680894

My question - If I want to test the RAM at higher speeds, say 475 on the FSB, I would do the following,

Raise FSB to 475
Lower the Multiplier to 8 (speed would now be 3.8GHz, which should be fine since I know my current 4GHz is stable after 9 hours of Prime 95).
I know I'll need to raise my DRAM to 2.0, possibly 2.1V.

How do I know what might cause the failure, if I dont POST, or I'm unstable in windows? Could I possibly need higher VCore, or MCH voltages with the new FSB of 475, or should they still be OK since I'm stable now?

I don't really understand how to efficiently find the max speed of my RAM. I guess I need to eliminate the CPU as the bottleneck by keeping my speed down via the multiplier, but does that automatically mean that my current VCore and MCH are good?

Current, from the BIOS
VCore: 1.25V (1.216 in CPU-Z)
PLL: 1.5V
Term: 1.2
DRAM: 1.9 (I know I'll have to raise this)
MCH: 1.20
Everything else is on auto, and I know shouldn't really need to be touched.

Thanks for any tips or advice. I've been searching and googling, but didn't find anything clear.

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you. I am using GSkill memory. DDR2 800Mhz, I can run stable at 4.1Ghz, but once I try to get to 4.2Ghz, my memory becomes way unstable to get past a few minutes of Prime or LinX testing.

Your on the right track, if anything, keep your CPU overclock down while you just keep trying to push the memory to its highest OC. My memory can be pushed much over 950Mhz, you might be the same.

Sorry, wish I could help more. But now you can feel that your not alone.

Just a quick question.. can you guys both run 3.6GHz at stock voltage stable?

Yes, I'm at 4.07Ghz at less than stock voltage. XD
But even if I raise my CPU voltage, my Ram still stays unstable the higher I OC it.

Thanks for the responses. I guess I will just keep tweaking. I suppose the real question is, if I crank up the FSB to 500 and get it stable at 2.1V on the RAM, is my VCore and Term both going to need ridiculously high numbers to keep me stable.

Only one way to find out. I'll report back if I learn anything useful!

Yes, I'm stable at 3.6 stock. I'm stable at 4.0 GHz at just over stock voltages.

Usually with RAM you'll have to do some time-consuming testing to flush out probs. Like Prime blend for 4+ hours.

Memtest won't necessarily flush out the probs in my experience.

Far Cry used to be a good game for flushing out stability problems, for whatever reason it's very sensitive. L4D2 likes to crash/stutter also with mem/CPU instability, and may be better since FC is old now.

You'll have alot easier time if you just buy some 1066.
