Power to overclock a Classified

My buddy and I are swapping motherboards. He has the EVGA Classified 760, and of course I have the Rampage 3 Gene. My concern is my PSU that doesn't have 2 8-pin 12 connections, and I want to oc my 960 at least to 4.0 GHZ, but would that be possible with my PSU?

My p55 FTW has 2 8 pin plugs and i have easily goten to 4.2ghz with just one of them plugged in.. the 2nd one is only for extreme overclocking, it provides the cpu with up to 600w if u have both plugged in

Good stuff. Just needed to know before we swapped them out. Didn't think about it much at first.

you only need one. It has to do with current and wattage limits. Each plug can give about 600 watts and you will only use about 200-300 max..

I've only used the 2nd 8pin once on my 760. I did it for the hell of it, but still did over 5.2ghz on the 920 with just one 8 pin.
