gtx 295 on 600w

Thread Starter
So someone is offering me a gtx 295 for $200. I really want to bite, but I need to know if my current PSU will cut it. I am currently running a 275 with no issues.

600w is enough, but not THAT 600w unit.

And don't waste $200 on that card. It's barely worth $120 or so. Get a GTX460 instead. Better use of your money, and less power usage so you could still use your Ultra PSU.

sorry but I suggest you get something better since that is a dual card, 36 amp is not that good for a 600 watt...get something from a better company, corsair, pcpnc, seasonic etc. for that beasty card

A GTX 260/275 can be had for 90 bucks. You're telling me two of them in one card is worth $120?

I just looked at the graphic card rankings on this site, and the gtx 295 is ranked 9th, while the gtx 460 is ranked a paltry 19th. How then is the 460 even close to equivalent?

And BTW, I got my GTX 275 on craigslist for 60.

If you're debating going with a 295 then you should seriously consider another 275 instead, cheaper path, plus more performance.

But I would not invest any money in a 680 rig, save and go all in on the upgrade.

And don't listen to these guys about the X3, I ran a mad overclocked GTX480 on my 600 X3 with no issues.

Are you willing to blow $200 on a card that's 3 generations old?

The GTX295 is just 2x GTX275's in SLI. Nothing more, nothing less. It's a very powerful card, sure. But its not worth the cost for gaming.

I suggested the 460 as just one possible option. If you're going to make an upgrade, make it something that's worth your time and money. DX11, faster card, SINGLE CARD (so you can add one more for SLI later), less power usage is always nice.....

Anything GTX460 1GB and up (ignoring the 465) or a GTX560 and up would all be a solid upgrade choice. HD6870 and up from AMD.

Again, the reason why I wouldn't suggest grabbing a 295 is because its just not worth the money to be buying a 3 generation old card. Especially for $200.
