Sapphire 6950 2GB Issue - Need Answers Please

Thread Starter
I overclocked my Sapphire 6950 to 880/1375.

Ran Furmark 1.9, AtiTool, MSI Kombustor, and 3DMark11.

It runs fine with those programs for extended periods of time, but when I start playing games (i.e. Starcraft 2 (Max Settings) and Dead Space 2 (Max Settings).

It will SOMETIMES, crash the game, not the computer, but the game. It will show that it had a driver error of some kind. After I close the game, everything is fine and just need to restart the game.

I stress SOMETIMES because it really just happens sometimes and I have no idea why because it ran on FurMark 1.9 fine without problems which pretty much takes the GPU to the extreme in tests.

I use the MSI Afterburner 2.1 and I applied a voltage change of 1.175v but for some reason the voltage sticks to 1.100v in GPU-Z and GPU Shark.

Anyone know why?

Note: It tops out at 70C @ 70% @ 100% Load. I have it at Fan Temp = Fan %. So it doesn't seem to be a temperature problem.

Unlocked shaders?
Realize that one program isn't the end all test of stability.

Well you need to change the BIOS because you can't change
Voltage if you don't

Revert to stock clocks and BIOS.
Really should diagnose a step at a time.

Video card bench programs only test the GPU. Games on the other hand tax both GPU and CPU. As you've found, you're not stable under load from both sources. Drop your overclock on your GPU until your stable in games. If you want to change volts, you need to add in the card specific vddc parameters.

My CPU Overclock is stable. I ran a Prime95 on it for 10 hours and no errors at all. It hasn't crashed on me. I also ran a Hot CPU Tester Diagnosis on it and finished with no errors.

I just finished an 8 hour FurMark 1.9 a few minutes ago with Dynamic Background on, Burn-in on, and Xtreme burn-in on @ 1920 x 1080 with 8x MSAA. Stabilized at 74C the whole time and did not crash. I get no artifacts whatsoever.

I get no problems at 860 / 1345 by the way.

How would I add the card specific vddc parameters? Any guides you can point me to?

Thanks.

If you want true stability, run Prime and Furmark at the same time. Running just one for 8 hours is a waste of time imo, just wasting the life of your card.

Either SC or Dead Space cant push the card hard enough to crash. Try Crysis and see that happens. It be a driver problem. I only got a game crash with GTA IV but it was with Mods so i am not sure.
