Sapphire 6950 2GB Issue - Need Answers Please - Page 2

For 98% stability I like to run my cards through the Crysis: Warhead benchmark on enthusiast quality, 4xAA & max resolution. If you can run this through a 99x loop and it doesn't crash, I would call it stable. I've ran Furmark for 24H with no problems, but crash within 5mins of running Crysis.

Also, GPU-Z doesn't read the voltage correctly for me at least. I would rely on Afterburner for the correct voltage reading. You may have to turn it on, not sure if it's on by default & I don't see it in your screenshots.

You shouldn't have any trouble running 880 core at 1.175V. Memory on the other hand... One of my cards MAXES at 1375 while the other MAXES at 1350. These sapphire cards I have are pretty crappy overclockers. Running my CFX Sapphire 6950's at 920/1350@1.175V.

I just ran FurMark 1.9 on Xtreme Burn-in with Prime95 for 5 hours and it didn't crash at all. My voltage sensors did get screwy though. My voltage sensors kept flashing that my Voltage was dropping to 0.000V on certain areas until it finally dropped across the board; it was reading 0.000V, which of course isn't true or my computer would have shut down.

I guess the motherboard doesn't like getting stressed that hard.

Prime95 completed with 0 errors. I did lose a Memory stick towards the end of it due to the heat generated. I had to cool it down before it read all 3 x 2GB sticks again.

My Overall Max Temps were: 84C CPU, 70C GPU, 50C MOBO, 55C Bridge.

I am running my GPU at 880 / 1375 @ 1.175V but I'm not sure it actually is doing 1.175V because GPU-Z and GPU Shark was reading 1.100V.

I will try the Crysis Warhead benchmark and loop it x99 as you've suggested.

I just hope all these burn-ins, stress tests, and benchmarks doesn't lower my computer's lifespan significantly.

I hope for it to last at least 2-3 years before it needs to be upgraded again.

You're running the 6970 bios correct?

You will fine longevity wise. I'd be concerned if you run 1.3v and have a penchant for running furmarkk/occt overnight for giggles.

It's always good idea to reinstall the display drivers after flashing the vga bios. I would start with that. If problems persist roll back on your memory clocks a bit.

Also Gpu-z reads the core voltage from the driver for some reason so it will just read the stock voltage no matter what you do.

I did install a fresh Driver after Flashing my Bios. I am running an unlocked shader Bios of the Sapphire Bios, NOT the 6970 BIOS. I'm afraid of ruining my card so I stick with the Unlock only.

I am running Catalyst 11.2 right now.

What would be a good program to read info from the card that reads the right voltage?

Thank you

MSI Afterburner reads it correctly for me. I used a modded 6950 bios to unlock the shaders like you did.

How much is your overclock and at what temps is your system doing?

On a different note, did you take off the HD cage to fit that H70 on your case?

Min cards are overclocked to 920/1350@1.175V.

With a single card, temps during Crysis would reach 77-80C with my custom fan profile hitting 50% @ 80C.

With dual cards, temps during Crysis will reach 80-83C withe same custom fan profile.

I don't actually have the H70 yet, it's on order. I plan on mounting it in the rear as an exhaust as the inside of my case is cool.

I only moved the HDD cages to improve intake airflow as seen here:

They weren't in the way of anything.

Ah, I assumed you had an NZXT Vulcan.

I am now running it at 900 / 1375 @ 1.185V and it runs stable through Crysis Warhead at Enthusiast settings @ 1920 x 1080. It's idling at 40C and topping at 65C.

What I wanna know now is if the 6950 Xfire performs better than a 6990 which is coming out soon?

I really would like to upgrade.
