Help OCing - beginner

Hey guys, long time lurker, first time poster lol.

I just got a new build and am looking to OC my processor. I'm a little new to it all.

I have the AMD Phenom x6 1100t at 3.3 ghz. I know I can easily obtain 4.0 ghz with little effort BUT my BIOS does not have any kind of AI Tweaker tab.

I currently have AMD 770 Chipset as my mobo.

Is there any way around this or am I locked out?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

ASUS M4A77T/USB3 -- AMD 770 Chipset

I'm also a bit confused with CPU-Z. my dxdiag says I' running at 3.3 ghz but some reason CPU-Z says this...

Again, thanks for any light anyone can shed on all of this.

You probably have cool & quiet enabled. This is an AMD power saving feature that cuts back the multiplier and, usually, the voltage to the CPU resulting in a lower clock speed until you need it. I would disable it.

Or if you are using a 3rd party application like Ntune or OCtuner, disable that and Overlcock directly from the bios.

Okay i disabled Cool n Quiet and got which is what I assume I should be at right now.

But there still is the matter that I do not have any kind of AI Tweaker option in the BIOS.

Thanks Krymore for the Cool and Quiet advice, from a fellow Tampa Flordian. =)

Not a problem, dont mind helping a fellow Floridain. Im still trying to figure out why It dosnt have AI Tweaker in the bios. If you are comfortable flashing the bios with the newest version, you could try that. http://usa.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=l1zATQi62WcRFJyk

To me it looks like the AI is an actual utility. If you look on the download page its listed as AI Suite V1.06

Hope that helps.

I have AMD EZ Flash 2 and according to that my particular version of BIOS is from August 2010, so I'd assume theres a more updated version.

Would updating it using AMD EZ Flash 2 work just fine? And would you have any tips on how to do that exactly?

Thanks again!

Would using a program such as OCtuner be a viable workaround this problem?
