O ya. You're talking about the check box. OP don't check that box checked.

yeah i don't have it checked...i'm just running it on card 2 while being in sli

with my sound if i unplug my front port (onboard audio) in game it doesnt automatically go to the sound card like other games do, and vice versa...in fact for most things to take effect i have to restart the game...including graphics settings...

also, my 780i is okay...i mean it overclocks fairly well...and i doubt it's a cpu bottleneck since a core 2 quad with 12mb l2 cache is equivalent to an i7 860 clock for clock...in non threaded applications...

ive got the 266.66 drivers...fresh from Nvidia's site

my fans are set to a custom profile where at 45C they're at 100% speed...

could it just be bad sli scaling/drivers? it's quite saddening since i really wanted to play the game in all of its glory

i sent Nvidia support an email...hopefully they may have some insight...

do you guys think it's anything else? is there anything else i should try?

also, sorry for the late response...i just got off duty

I just can't bring myself to give the whole run down on what you're seeing here ... I've given the same spiel so many times before.

Suffice to say that everything you describe is pretty 'normal' for this game.

With your rig you should probably run Mafia 2 with one card for rendering, and one card for PhysX. Just trust me on this one

Edit:
Ok, an abbreviated explanation, just because I'm a compulsive ...

1) The only time you see PhysX usage is when you're looking at it on a dedicated card. If the card is also rendering, the only usage you'll see is the rendering usage. So if 30% of the cards power is going to physX, you'll only see 70% usage on the AB graphs.
2) PhysX will always run on only one card. However, when two cards are in SLI, they must be running at the same speed. Therefore, while the entire 'hit' from PhysX occurs on one card, the other card slows down to match it in terms of rendering. Thus, if one card is occupied 30% w/PhysX, both your cards in SLI will show (up to) 70% GPU usage ... that's the rendering work happening on each card.
3) In Mafia 2, if you do not have a DEDICATED PhysX card, the cloth PhysX will run on the CPU. There's parts in the game where this will totally slam your CPU's capabilities.

These three things should explain to you the observations that you've made, and why I'm suggesting that you split your SLI set and run one card as dedicated PhysX card for this game if you want to run PhysX.

thank you very much sir. i will keep this information and pass it on to whoever else asks it. I greatly appreciate it!

i thnk i'll follow your advice. I might try running physics on my processor just to see if that helps or hurts...

again, thank you

EDIT: wait a second, then how are people getting 70 fps minimum with 560 sli on reviews?? that makes no sense...

I heard Mafia 2 has some serious PhysX issues when it launched (Basically all the main NPC's in the game had PhysX enabled on their Clothes... and this destroyed performance.

You could do what i did and delete those physX files leaving only Vito's clothes with PhysX and Environmental PhysX (there is a guide to do this if you google it)... i almost finished the game at a constant 60fps "Maxed" when i had a GTX460 @850Mhz core (1600x900).

And trust me deleting those files won't take away the Awesomeness of PhysX in that game.

Steams pretty good with updates. Just make sure auto update is selected when go to properties on the game.

it is, and it says my game is up to date...it's so weird...other people are seeing 70 fps with 560 sli, some people are saying it runs like butter on their single 460, yet somehow i can't get my game above 24 fps
