MCP355 to MCP655 questions.

Thread Starter
Hey, I currently have a mcp355 pump with a XSPC top, in my loop.

(Loop consists of a RX480 rad, RX240rad, EK Supreme HF block, and 2 GPU full cover blocks).

I find that my pump however is vibrating like mad (have ordered petra's gel stuff to deal with this) However I am thinking of switching my res out for a xspc bay res/pump combo for the 355 to deal with clutter. Has anyone had any problems with vibrations and noise with the bay res setup? The pump currently contributes to the vast majority of noise through vibration in my system and I would like to lower this.

Alternatively I have heard that whilst the 655 does not have as much head height, it is quieter. Can anyone provide any feedback as to how loud the 655 + XSPC bay res combo is vs the 355 + bay res? and will there be likely substantial differences in my temps due to a change from the 355 to 655?

I would greatly appreciate it anyone could upload a video demonstrating solely the 655 mounted in the bay res and/or the 355 mounted in bay res (all fans off) so I could judge volume.

Ofcourse, any feedback is also nice! Thanks

Either a 655 or 355 can easily handle that loop, the difference in head height won't be noticed.

I like the 655, it's silent even running full bore (I have a pair in an EK parallel top which has anti-vibration screws) in the stock configuration.

I don't have any experience with the 355 or bay res's but I can say that the 655 when bled is silent, I have to put a hand on it to make sure it's running biggrin.gif

While I don't have the exact thing you're looking for, I have been doing some noise bits on the Koolance Bay reservoir.

I've also been doing some with stand alone pumps and finding it really comes down to mass when the pumps are not decoupled from vibration. The more the reservoir weighs the better.

As far as the D5 vs DDC series, I'm not too sure yet. I had assumed the D5s were better for noise, but in my standalone pump test the stock top D5 was louder than the DDC with top when decoupled. The D5 do dial down to a lower noise level, but at like performance levels they are fairly close.

I think it also depends on the reservoir material. Acetal is softer and more flexible and likely a bit better at reducing pump noise vs acrylic.

I have videos on my site here:

my mcp655 is virtually silent but it is suspended in the air, hanging by tubing from the resevoir, isolating any vibrations. Here's a couple pictures of how my 655 is mounted.

It's not going anywhere. I already mounted the 402 in my son's case, and the 452 is going in mine once I finish up all the needed noise related testing.

I just installed mine last night. Its been leak testing all night and its just the pump running the loop--it is fairly silent. You can definitely hear it if its the only thing on, but I would imagine with the rest of your system running, it will blend in unnoticed. It's not enough to bother me unless I were going for a silent PC. In that case, if I ran my loop w/o any fans, and ssd's only, I think I would notice it.

I can give a better update later tonight.
