The 920 is $111.22 shipped without a fan.

The 925 is $142.00 shipped with a fan.

They're basically the same chip, except that the 925 is AM3 and the 920 is AM2+. It really depends on what board you're buying.

Already have the Asus M3N78-VM. Which has 16+2 phase power.

You can get away with the 920 on your board since you only have ddr2. Plus becasue it comes with no fan you can save some money and get a proper aftermarket fan for overclocking or just for better noise.

I used to have a 920, it's great but my only complaint was I couldn't pop it into a DDR3 motherboard when I wanted to upgrade, so I am stuck with older motherboards. Plus now DDR2 costs more than DDR3. Consider the 925 if you think you may want to do some upgrades. But overall there is very little performace gain from DDR2 to DDR3.

Doesn't the 925 support ddr2?

As the motherboard supports both cpus, and both ram.

Can you not get the PIIx4 940? That way you have a fast (and cheap) BE processor until Bulldozer/Ivy is released.

The 920 is AM2+ and will not fit in newer AM3 boards (there are no good AM2+ boards sold anymore)

the 925 is AM3, and will fit in all AM3 boards

920 is DDR2 only. Keep that in mind.
