SLI GTX 460: Low PPD?

Thread Starter
I just set up F@H and am running 2x GTX 460s in SLI using two instances of F@H(-gpu 0 and -gpu 1). According to afterburner they are both being loaded. However, HFM.NET says I'm only getting 11K ppd. Shouldn't I be getting closer to 22K?

BTW the simulation is running at 820ns/day, 42 residue peptide

Did you add 2 clients to HFM?
1 for each GPU.

Okay... Disabled SLI and now it's only folding at about 400ns/day on separate cards. Clearly SLI works fine, just HFM can't calculate PPD correctly. Actual PPD is double what is reported in HFM.

I'll just re-enable SLI

A more accurate representation of your folding speed might be calculated by the end user as follows:
nanoseconds per day / (1 / number of residues in peptide) = speed (nanoseconds per day in terms of size of protein)

= 37840 in this case (this is probably similar to the way PPD is calculated)

Close the viewer, if you are looking at that pretty protein folding its only reducing your PPD.

You can have SLI on, its only on rare occasions it causes problems.

Yeah, everything seems okay now, viewer reports 860ns/day which is linear scaling. PPD return is as expected. HFM must just not be able to calculate parallel gpus correctly.

The viewer = bad
HFM can calculate the PPD correctly of 2 GPUs.

Can you post a screenshot of HFM?

sure

It doesn't really matter what HFM says though, the log files and the viewer both say I'm getting 860ns/day which is double what I got with one GPU

You need to add another GPU client on HFM.

Also you are not folding on your CPU correctly, you need to add the -smp flag.

Okay, I added it twice and now it reads 22K PPD. It seems like kind of a hack way though, since they both use the same log file so it's just doubling the estimated PPD basically.

-smp 6 was added, but it's running a job that does not allow for CPU parallelization.
