XP can't see my 1TB F3?

Thread Starter
Hi all,

I installed XP on an old HDD today for various reasons and all appeared to be well. However, when I open My Computer I can only see 2 HDDs - the 160GB drive XP is on and the 500GB drive Windows 7 is on - there is no 1TB F3.

When I open Disk Management I get this (picture below) but all of the options are greyed out.

Any ideas? It's probably something obvious I'm missing...
Also, I'm running SP3.

TIA
Trevor

I haven't used XP in a while, but are you able to right-click on the drive in Disk Management and Change Drive Letter and Paths? From that picture it looks like no letter is assigned to it.

Nope. Every single option is blanked out apart from Help which takes me to the useless MS help guide, and Properties which just tells me my drive is working fine

Directly to the mobo through a SATA cable. It works fine in Windows 7 too.

Is this like what you are experiencing? The guy seems to be having the same issue as you, and his drive is also a GPT Protective Partition.

You should be able to right click and click on create new volume or delete volume.

If you delete you will have to create and format a new volume, if like you said you right click and all you seen is ms help then I am at a lost as I have never seen this personally.

Try googling your problem to see if anyone else has ran into this before.

Don't worry, you probably need to format it.

Really want to help you, but I forgot the name of the problem (included in windows, at least on 7) that you should use - it's not as simple as formating it on the my computer menu.

Google for: windows xp initialize HDD format
