XP can't see my 1TB F3? - Page 2

Thread Starter
It has 650GB of data on it... Formatting is not an option. It's already formatted to NTFS and works fine in 7, why do I need to format it again?

OP, Seagate has a help article about GPT Protective Partitions that looks like it will help you.

EDIT: Downside appears to be that data is destroyed.

According to this article, XP 32bit cannot read GPT partitions.
whoa whoa whoa...I have first hand experience with this and all the hardware is 100% working.

A GPT partition is commonly used with linux. As usual, XP is out of date and is unable to read the GPT partition, or even touch it. It just recognizes the drive is there because the MBR is still accessible.

What you have to do is boot to a live distro like GParted or CentOS or Ubuntu and copy the data off the drive you want to keep. Then format it as NTFS.

Then your drive will be seen and usable in your dinosaur XP OS
