Need some advice on streaming video

Thread Starter
I have a media pc that I have uploaded various video formats (mkv. VOB's, etc).

It sit in my home office. What I have typically done is to move it to whichever tv we happen to be watching and connect it via HDMI (either direct to tv's or to my recievers depending on room).

I could very easily run a network cable from the media pc to my living room.

What I am considering is the Asus O Play.

Couple of questions

Would the O Play be connected to my router (and through it to the media pc?)

Would there be an issue with video playback quality?

Would it make more sense to connect it directly to the media pc (I would have to add a separate NIC as the motherboard only has one but I have spare ones floating around). The media pc has windows XP (required for a couple of apps I run).

The other option I was looking at is the Western Digital Live TV. Both units are around the same price.

Any suggestions?

wow... ummm i have the zotac ZBOX HD-ID11-U http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16856173005 I loaded Ubuntu 10.10 and then XBMC on it and it has a built in wireless N card. I have mainly been copying files to it and then running them from there. It works well and there is a tutorial on how to load with Ubuntu 10.10 and then XBMC inside and with a mediacenter pc remote (got mine for $39.99 at frys). I can control it all from the couch, including suspending it so that i can just hit the power button to "power" it back on. it is very cool.... i don't think it plays vob files tho'...I think i could stream to it too... haven't had a chance to try that since i got my new D-Link Dir655 N router. I got a great deal on the Zotac (think it was like $175 a/r and included a 2gb dimm). Unfortunately i don't know much about the WD or the Asus.
