question about buying speakers for $150, do i also need a new soundcard? - Page 2

If you are satisfied with that you have, then do not bother upgrading. Do not go into an endless chain of spending money you do not have. >.> You are just going to be replacing things left and right looking for the newest thing.

With that out of the way, I would really focus on buying the speakers first and see how you like them. If you are looking for more then you can get around to looking for a sound card.

Surprised more of you weren't totally jumping on the "BUY SOUND CARD NOW" wagon.

I'll be the one to do that then.

There's almost no purpose buying nice speakers if you're going to listen to them off of on board sound. I mean..Yeah..noise will come out of the speakers and sure it may even be pretty nice with the "wow" effect of your new speakers blairing out your favorite songs, but when you listen to that same music through those same speakers through a dedicated sound card..the clarity difference is...WOW..This is obvious from the crappiest of speakers to the best of them.

I mean, if you're not into gaming, I would actually recommend buying a DAC instead.

Still, if you're not trying to spend a lot, a Xonar DX/1 is the way to go. I'd say it's a necessity.

Only reason not to get a sound card is if you're hooked in over optical TOSLINK or whatever.

Also, I would just plug my headphones directly into the sound card rather than into the speakers or headphone jack on the case.
