Can i overclock a 8600gt? - Page 2

On an 8600GT, the Memory is a bottleneck. You must first be able to raise it to at least 750 MHz, then raise your way up the core.

My DDR3 8600GT overclocked like mad. I did a BIOS volt mod for a little more voltage and I was able to raise the core like 100mhz and max out the slider in Afterburner for the shaders.
Finally an update

LOL

Was that actually stable? I couldn't go more than like 900mhz (IIRC) on the core without issues. The shaders went like no tomorrow though.

Stable enough to do some benchmarks.
Like I said however, OC'ing that high did ABSOLUTELY nothing. Maybe 50 more points in aquamark. The memory is such a bottleneck. You can see its stable enough to run Kombustor there in the picture
