Thanks to P67's having full speed PCI-E on the x4 slot, 8x8 vs 16x4 on P67 doesn't matter. I got the same performance either way, so I exchanged my 8x8 board for a 16x4 to save a few bucks.

16x4 on P55 sucked balls.
Oh really? x16/x4 and x8/x8 doesn't impact performance? I have a 6850 and I might eventually throw another one in there, so I was hoping to not lose performance.

Although two people here have said the boards should switch to x8/x8, you sure that it won't?

For SLI you NEED 8x8. Thank Nvidia for that limitation.

For crossfire you can do 16x4.

Thanks to P67's increase PCI-E bandwidth, 8x8 or 16x4 in CFX won't really matter. I ran both myself, it didn't change anything.


A lot of people may have a certain opinion of 16x4 due to how poorly it performed on the older P55 chipset. But you're talking P67, a different beast.

Yeah, I knew that already. I'm doing Crossfire so it's not an issue as to which I'm "allowed" to do. I was just hoping to get the lane setup with better performance for the Xfire setup.

Gotcha, well that's good to hear. Even though the test runs I saw only showed a 0-2 fps difference when running at a high resolution, and that's before the P67 chipset (though I saw some before with up to a 5fps difference). But I figured if two boards are the same price, I might as well get the one that can do x8/x8. But if it's a non-issue, then I won't even worry about it.

Yes, I know. In the post JUST before yours, I already said that, and someone before already brought that up. And I'll be running Crossfire, not SLI, which I already said and could be inferred from my sig rig.
