Make an OS partition of 100 GB (don't try 20 -30 GB) and another 100 GB partiton for documents, email, whatever.
They were 500 I was looking at laptop ones by mistake, what about SATA 3.0Gb/s vs SATA 6.0Gb/s? It says the GA-X58A-UD3R has SATA 6 Gbps support, but does that mean SATA 3.0Gb/s won't work?

How about these bad boys? They're 10 dollars less which makes a difference overall.

3 GB SATA (Intel) will work with a 6GB speed drive.
From what I've read, 6GB is yet poorly implemented and it's not a true 6GB anyways but rather files are compressed and transmited such that it equivalates 6GB of a 3GB uncompressed file transmission speed - again, just what I've read here and there.

Search for reviews of whatever drives you want - try Amazon.com for lower or similar prices but 'free shipping.'
They look OK to me, 720RPM, 16 MB cache.

Samsung F3 is the fastest mechanical drive around these days followed closely by the WD Black series. Can't go wrong with either.

Most likely the AALX has 64MB cache while the AALS has 32MB. Technically this makes the AALX the stronger drive but the differences would only be noticeable in high I/O scenarios.

No idea... hardly see the necesity to RMA one of the newer hdd's... but if you feel like it, then pay the price.
