Building a new rig.. first one in 6 years, and i've been using WinXP since i could remember.

A lot of people have said that Win7 / vista eat memory and i was wondering if i should get the software if i'm trying to make a gaming rig? All opinions welcome, thank you

if your building a new pc, I would definately get win 7 64 bit.
Get 6 gig ddr3 if intel and 4 or 8 GB if going amd.

XP was great and it's still good, but IMO 7 is much nicer (and way better than vista)

Get a ssd for some snappy speed too wink.gif

Windows 7 64bit, its great, as the guy above said, SSD and it flies, but not needed if on a budget, HDD do just fine.

You wanting to go Intel or AMD?

If you are building a gaming computer you shouldnt be worrying about eating memory.
A Gaming computer will most likley have a quad core, 4GB+ of memory, a good video card etc. Why worry about 7 eating memory when you will have 4GB+ and are going to only be using ~2GB in games.

XP is an amazing OS, but 7 is better in every way I can think of. Not to mention you will get support for DX11.

Get windows 7 and say goodbye to BSODs.
Really, I've been using Win7 since Oct.2009 (MSDN test ver. until march2010, and Ultimate since then) and I've had 2 maybe 3 BSODs. And I'm not gentle to my rig. wink.gif
Win XP is simply outdated.
