Internet is slow

Thread Starter
Well I use to be able to stream youtube videos and basically browse without any problems. However in the past two weeks the internet would be fast...then slow in like spurts it seemed. I have at&t DSL using the stock 2wire modem. I am wireless..Now the funny thing is, The wired is a bit faster, but not much. IT still has the same problems. So what do you think I should do?

I want to switch to cox cable..but haha getting my mother to do anything but facebook is a chore in itself. The 2wire modem is in rough shape and is pushing 6 years old. Is it about time to get a new modem and a new router? Will it be compatible?

EDIT seems like hardwire is okay and my laptop does the same thing as my wireless desktop...so you think a new router will solve my problem?

WOW, i was literally going to post the same thing. I have comcast and the interwebs are SO slow and then normal, on and off. Sometimes i get great ping in TF2 other times im in the 400's. I think its the router because when i go to my friends/grandparents house and play i get fine ping/speed.

Generally if you complain about the one they sent you they'll give you a new one.
Your chances of this are higher since it's been so long..

It could be AT&T's network, or maybe something you're doing on your computer.
I'm using a router that's pushing...9 years as of this march, and it still works just fine with my 6/1 ADSL connection.

I don't know if its true or anything but I have complained before and they "switched me to a new channel" I was skeptical but my pings dropped so I has happy and didn't question it, maybe my neighbor just happen to stop streaming pron after the call

might be the modem, my friend had the same problem where it would die every now and then, got a new router and it didnt help, so they returned the router and got a new modem. That solved everything.

complaining works too, because usually if the problem is from their end, they aren't suppose to charge you.

AT&T DSL has been having a lot of congestion issues on there side since U-Verse dropped.

They dropped all of their money into U-Verse upgrades and left DSL in the dust.

Hopefully they might add some capacity soon, and the congestion will die down.

It might not be that though, could be your router, a line issue on your side, etc.

Those are all good suggestions. I am gonna buy a new router maybe, then a new modem from ATT. Or complain. Not sure what to do first. I know the modem is all dented and the cover is like falling off now.
