San Ace 109R1212H1011, late prince of fans

I did a photo essay on San Ace fans last year, published it here. I didn't have any 109R1212H1011's. Now I do:

San_Ace_109R1212H1011_exhaust_view_2011-02-06_004.png

Exhaust view. Made in Japan.

San_Ace_109R1212H1011_intake_view_2011-02-06_005.png

Intake view. Guess it's a used fan.

San_Ace_109R1212H1011_on_the_D14_2011-02-06_003.png

Intake view, mounted on a D14.

San_Ace_109R1212H1011_s_on_the_D14_shroud_2011-02-06_002.png

Surprise! Got two. Mounted on D14 in push/pull, with a shroud.

Sanyo_Denki_San_Ace_120x38mm_-1011_old_and_new.png

Old vs new. A 9G1212H1011 draws 0.38 Amps.

San_Ace_109R1212H1011_9G1212E1011.png

109R1212H1011 on the left, 9G1212E1011 on the right. Note the subtle difference in fan blade shape.

As always, please feel free to contribute your own 109R1212X1011pics.

I have 4x 109R1212H101 fans, 1 on my GPU and 3 on a rad. I also cut the bracing out of the corners, so they're basically H1011 fans now smile.gif

Have few 109R1212H1011, no doubt, still one of the best fan out there.

Here another mutant from 109R1212xxxx family, quite rare and hard to find, its Sanyo Ace 109R1212T1H142 , automatic thermal controlled speed based on ambient temp.

Fascinating. And look at that current draw: only 0.48A, less than the non-thermally regulated -H fan.

Easy - when you remove your rear fan and cut out your rear grill; let the pull fan be your case exhaust (see item 2 in my sig).

Inherited some old server cases back in "98". Never really paid attention to the fans under the front shroud. But Just before I was going to trash the case I went about stripping the good odds and ends and found that there was a 120mm San Ace under there the whole time.
( The computer at one time was a server at Nortel. One of a few that wasn't a mac. From a salvage job I did )

model# 109R1212t1H142

I remember it working in the past but now when I hook it up I get nothing.
I tried putting a space heater up to it till it got fairly hot. ( As long as I could bear, tho not enuff to burn me while holding ) But the thermistor never kicked the fan on?

I am assuming the thermistor is internal (t1? ) and that it is supposed to kick in about 28c?
Am I doing something wrong? Or does it sound like the fan is jes plain broke.
I never used a thermal fan before so I am not sure?

Is it hard to locate the thermistor and remove it if it's at fault? ( a pic showing internal placement? ) Is it easy to open up a San Ace?
I would really like to play with it if so ( make a hovercraft for my iguana ).

I've had 2 San Ace 1011's in my rig for a week or so now. I LOVE THEM! Cant say enough good things about this fan, lots of people talked about how loud they are. they arnt much louder than Antec Tri-cools I was shocked! mind blowing pressure aswell!! Wish I had some of the fancy temp sencing one's!! Thanks for the little write up man!

lucky for me I just read this thread.

About 4 or 5 years ago I acquired 12 109R1212H101 fans sleeved with a 3pin connector attached. It was part of a group buy but I don't even remember where I got them from.

They went into the box full of fans still wrapped up and never used. Now after reading this I went and looked at the box and confirmed that they were the model listed above.

Also this weekend I am doing a new build and wanted to replace the fans on the H70-so now I will use 2 of these attached the the fanbus.

Glad I found this thread because I was looking for the gentile typhoon 15 series fans which seem to be out of stock everywhere. Lets see how loud these will sound-cant wait to test smile.gif

I can't wait to get back to fan testing so I can pit the R's and the G's head to head.
