Best Air Cooler? - Page 2

I read a very extensive article where they tested a bunch of air coolers, and the H50. Some of the air coolers were quite a bit better, but then when they put 2 Noctua Fans on the H50 it was the best.

I didnt think it was a very old article, but maybe there are some significantly better coolers that have come out recently.

Ill see if I can find the article.

I'm not sure what sources he is referring to, but I can tell you that my H70 with Yate-Loon SH fans is amazing for what I paid; less than $100 including the SH fans. The temps I get are high 60's at 5 GHz. The base is lapped, which helps to the tune of about 3-4 deg C.

The better air coolers are on par, if not better than, the H50/70.

Looks like about $80. Look around, you might find it cheaper somewhere else.

the H50 really is a good cooler. If you set it up right, with fresh air being pulled into the rad and another fan pulling the hot air out of it you get very good temps. I have an i7 920 and it was at 1.35vcore and even at those volts my max temp was 80 on 100% load. Now 80 was pretty rare, most of the time it sat at 76-77 tops with the random 80 degree now and then. I have 2 cooler master 70cfm 120mm fans on it. The only problem with the silver arrow is that im worried it'll conflict with my ram sinks.

should also mention my chip was not lapped, if I had my h50 lapped and the chip lapped I would definitely get another 2-3 degrees in there.

I cant find the article direcntly for some reason, but I found parts of it that had be reposted:

Comparison of the coolers (Stock single fan on the H50):

Added the dual Noctua fans on the H50:

So yah, the D14 was still a little better under load.
But since the OP already has an H50 he could just et some fans for it and be set.

If you're not planning on doing any serious overclocking then why bother with the best air cooler? You're going to spend near 100$ for the best cooler w/ proper fans so you might as well spend 120 and get a 240 RASA. If you're not OCing alot though, just get a Hyper 212+ at microcenter for 25$. or 30$ on newegg.

ANy recommendations on fans? Im not so worried about noise, more interested in high CFM. I have a few coolermaster fans right now at 70cfm, I recently read about a noctua fan that was 140mm but mounted fine with 120mm fittings due to its circular design.

Or if you REALLY don't care about noise, you can get one of these http://www.frozencpu.com/products/81...l=g36c435s1109 and move 252cfm as well as convert your pc into a harrier.

Imagine 2 of these on a silver arrow. I seriously think it would rival liquid cooling.

I know this adds absolutely nothing to this thread, but anyway...

There are a Googolplex of threads with this exact same question and its not as if there is a wide variety of answers, there are basically 3 good air coolers, I am sure there are a Googolplex posts listing what they are...
