I use it for AHCI. I've never tried IDE. But then I only boot from a USB stick on the odd occasion I want to do a BIOS update or something like that.

I haven't tested the e2100 lately on really large file transfers, but I know I had issues on prior versions of the hardware (Killer M1, Xeno, and 2100 - I've tried them all) and large file transfers. I do small local lan transfers without problems; I just haven't had a need lately to do any large file swaps between systems. Downloading large files from the internet occasionally results in the Network Manager application to shut down, but the embedded NIC continues to function. I did have some problems earlier on that I suspect were due to antivirus port scanning interfering with the e2100 or its software, so I put the e2100 software on an exception list just in case. That did seem to smooth things out a bit, but it isn't like I did scientific testing.

Not sure why you are getting all the error 21s and reboot issues in certain situations, sorry.

Thanks I downloaded and tried those those drivers last night and unfortunately no improvement. Bigfoot to be fair are looking at the problem but at the moment are not coming up with anything apart from trying to copy files to a different PC on the LAN. So I am setting up a laptop and going to transfer files to that to see what happens.

Will report back as things progress.

I have two X25-M drives and I noticed you have three are you running them in a Raid formation by any chance? If so how are they performing without trim?

I am not running any of my drives in RAID.

My two Intel 510s are on the Marvell controller, and as a consequence do not have TRIM but must rely exclusively on internal garbage collection to erase unused cells. So far I haven't noticed any particular performance issues. I am looking forward to upgrading to a motherboard with Intel SATA 3 ports, though, just for peace of mind.

Okay a question for Sin.

I have the X58 G1 Assassin and I'm starting to get issues where when I boot up I have no sound, I try to start the creative console launcher and I get a messeage saying no creative hardware is installed or found on this system....I have to reinstall the drivers to fix this. Also occuring more frequently now is another issue that when I'm gaming the system will freeze with a black screen and I hear through my headphones a loud static type buzzing...this goes on till I reboot the system.

Recently I have just found out that this model of G1 boards didn't have sufficient EMI shielding for the creative audio caps and that it was inevitable that electrical components on the board would become damaged because of this....seems to be what I may be experiencing.

What will Gigabytes stand on this be if I RMA the board because of these issues I'm now experiencing????

Thanks.

Has anyone tried to set up Raid 5 using 6x1TB drives, and installing Win 7 Ult 64 on it??
I've got G1.Sniper (rev1.0) and 6 Hitachi 1TB drives.
I've tried setting CD/DVD Rom Options to EFi in the BIOS (F4E) but the Windows install will not create a GPT drive when I create a new partition on the empty Raid.

Thanks.

Just seen your message. The bit about the insufficient EMI shielding for the audio caps is worrying. I see the newer 2 & 3 later platform motherboards have special shielding fitted around the creative audio caps as standard. See here and here:

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Gigabyte/G1_Sniper_M3_Preview/images/vanity.jpg

Can you point me in the direction of where you read that info. Is there any chance of adding EMI shielding myself?

I definitely have a love hate thing with this Gigabyte motherboard and the Creative Audio X-Fi is what makes it worth persevering. If I enable the Mavell 6GB SATA ports in the bios it causes the X-Fi audio card to reset all its (windows) settings which is a bit strange. Having come from an Asus background for the past ten years I sure now appreciate how good their motherboard product design and implementation is.

In the UK the warranty on Gigabyte motherboards is three years so if your localisation is the same you should be able to RMA, good luck though.

Never found someone to trade my assassin with, so I went and built a whole new rig. Will be putting my assassin into another case and selling it if anyone is interested.

All it would need is a Power supply.

PM me for details if interested.
