Ah yes, your right. It does not decrypt. But the quality of the rips are really nice

DVDShrink to copy to the hard drive, Handbrake to convert to .mp4

mp4 can also be used on your ipod/iphone etc

can you use a secondary program to decrypt after it has been ripped without losing quality?

decrypting is against OCN ToS as it is talking of bypassing copyright

I was mistaken earlier

To copy to my HD I use DVDShrink (Free and excellent)

Dvd fab is the best program that is paid, for direct copying of dvd no compression. I then convert to a h264 .mkv format.

I can reduce a 7gig dvd down to a 2.5gig file that looks almost as good as the dvd.

dvd to AVI is a horrible container. xvid and divx suck at holding any type of quality without huge file size, which is why i use h264 or x264. With a mp4 or mkv container.

Handbrake is good, but dvdfab is a all in one suite program. That i would use if i dont reencode for best quality and size.

The files i deal with are copyright free.

*Attempts to not talk about decryption*

It seems DVDFab is more appropriate for what you are looking for *Wink* *Wink*

DVDShrink and Handbreak are great programs but will not perform to your specification *Nudge* *Nudge*

just for clarification, im not looking to do this for distribution or copyright infringement. my netbook doesnt have a DVD drive, as most dont, and i just want a way to watch movies that i have bought and paid for on my netbook while im out and about. i was trying to see if there was a way i could copy them to my desktop, and then transfer them to my netbook so i can play them later.

i understand we cant talk about illegal acts. if its not possible to do this legally, then i guess i will just not be able to watch movies on my netbook im not totally clear on what is legal and what is not as the rules seem to change. is it illegal to make a copy of a dvd you have purchased for your own uses; ie not distribute, etc.

i just wanted to clarify.
