Need help unlocking!!!!!!!! - Page 3

I was waiting for xd to say don't unlock and I have to agree on this one. That lower level MSI board is not built to handle an OC'd quad or more than stock CPU voltage. MSI is the brand that is known for motherboard fires. Not all boards, but especially those lower end boards. If the unlock doesn't work right away it aint going to happen.

OMG! Thank you everyone, Microcenter, (as you guys probably know, still have the free mobo and 40$ off certain board with certain cpus) well i need a low priced one... because i barely have any money, but its gotta be good, i cant afford anything else because so that obviously means no DDR3 (i know, that sucks! ) so please give me some cheap mobos that are free with purchase of cpu, and or ones that qualify for 40$ off....

Yeah, a lot of people doing this got the free Microcenter mobo. Good deal I guess, but only use it on super budget builds with 95W TDP processor on below. None of the boards available there are 125W ready (at least as determined by us) - in fact some of the boards there aren't 125W ready to begin with as rated by motherboard manufacturer!

And yes, they can and do blow up. In fact this has been something that is trending lately both as a safety issue and as something that is actually happened. I'm seeing VRM blow-ups pop up here on OCN nearly day-to-day now on various motherboards including non-MSI!

The M4A78LT-M LE also has a 3+1 VRM. May be slightly better quality on ASUS, but still unsafe. Not much difference.

What would you say my odds are of unlocking the phenom II x2 560 (if all cores were stable and able to be unlocked) on this motherboard?

I probably wouldn't try to run a quad-core on 3+1 phase, and 4+1 is something I'm not all that happy about running them with higher voltages (anything under 1.375v is my personal preference for quad cores. I don't like the idea of running an overclocked hex-core on a 4+1 phase at all).

As such, while it might work, I wouldn't recommend it.

VRM is short for "Voltage Regulation Modules". Basically, the more you have and the less voltage is going through them, the less strain is put on them and the longer they'll last (and, usually, the more stable the voltage will be). Running too much power through a smaller number really does make it more likely that they'll die - ruining your motherboard.

Have a look at the orange/underlined link in my sig concerning VRMs
Basically they supply/clean/regulate power to CPU
