Razer Black Widow for FPS gaming?

I have never used a mechanical keyboard before, but see alot of people singing their praises on OCN! I am tempted to upgrade my Saitek Eclipse II, but unsure of how good they are at FPS games. Any user feedback?

One other thing putting me off are the macro keys located to the left... I am not sure if this will be a pain in the @ss for using sprint etc.

All feedback is welcome.

Got myself a 7G couple month ago and my only regret is that i have not got it sooner, never looked back.
Dont know about the Blackwidow, i read good reviews on it i simply didnt go for it because im not so fond of the gloss look and i dont really need it to be blacklit.
Definitely geeting a mechanical keyboard was one of the best things i done for ages, i still get a few typos and stuff due to the black switches but i dont type much anyway and for gaming im overwhelmed with it.
Love my 7G

Black Widow doesn't have full NKRO. NEITHER DOES THE ULTIMATE. The ultimate is a quality keyboard tho.

I picked up a Black Widow Ultimate about 3 weeks ago. I have been putting it through its paces, Bad Company 2, Black Ops, and CS:S for shooters. I have about a 3.5 KD ratio on Black Ops. I was using a $50 Logitech Media keyboard before that I picked up for its handy volume wheel. lol My KD has pretty much stood the same with the BWU over the 3 weeks of gaming. So it won't make you better or worse.

What is great about it though, is the feeling the keys have. They are clustered alittle closer together and have this really grippy type of surface coating. It feels almost like each key is like a mouse button.

The BWU and BW are not full NKRO, meaning you can't hold down every key and have them all register. Some key combos you can hold down 6 keys and have them all pop at the same time for example if I press down QWERTY keys all at the same time, they will all show. However, if I try the same thing with ZXC only 2 of the 3 keys will show. For the most part during gaming, I have never had a key not register when I need it to. It seems like some combos won't work but you game with 5 fingers, and alot of gamers professional or not have been gaming with 2KRO keybaords for ages. So I think needing NKRO for gaming is a bit over hyped.

Overall I think its a very nice keyboard. I just find the keys fun to use, really springy and light. Do I think the BWU is worth $130? I'm not sure, tough to put a value on something because we all differ. However, I have been enjoying the KB a ton, I think it looks great personally and the back lighting helps me since I play late a lot. For the price, Razer probably could have added some more features to it such as full NKRO. Then again, you have logitech charging $200 for rubberdomes and a little lcd screen. And that KB the G19 is worth it to some, so it just depends. The layout takes alittle getting used to, I love the fact that you can macro every key on the KB if you so wish. And I do like how they included 5 dedicated macro keys, not overly done but you have some there if you want to set some stuff up without messing with your default KB layout. After about the first week my left hand just grew accustomed to the layout and the feel of having the macro keys to the left. I would recommend you atleast try it, you can opt for the standard BW if price is an issue, worst case scenario, you return it.

You made a massive mistake of expecting a keyboard to make you good at gaming.

Also, don't worry about NKRO it's not really useful. I mean, come on! When is someone going to realistically press 5 keys at once?

Which really isn't a big issue. I mean, on standard keyboards, it's very rare to be effected. The only time I found myself limited was when flying jets in BF2. I would be pressing shift, W, A, Up, Left and spacebar at the same time and it would lock up.

The BW doesn't suffer this issue because of the optimised matrix. Sure, you could get a NKRO board, but, tbh, it's an overhyped problem. As for gaming, it really doesn't make much difference. I don't use the macros so, really, I noticed no change. However, where I like my BW is using it day to day. Typing is so much better and more enjoyable.

ive noticed an increase in my ability to dodge bullets in CS with my new KB, probably due to faster response time time of 1ms VS. 7-10ms with a standard 125hz ps2 KB.

I didn't expect it to make me better at gaming. I was just pointing out the fact that it hasn't made me better or worse, incase the OP had the idea that the KB would increase his gaming skill. Thats why I stated, it won't make you better or worse. Sometimes people do get the impression when buying a "gaming" peripheral that it will increase skill.

Also, I said I feel NKRO is over hyped, I realize it has its uses. A lot of pro gamers have been fine on 2KRO boards for awhile now. The BWU does have combos that reach 6keys+modifiers, just not every key combo on the board works in that fashion. You aren't always limited to 2KRO but even so, not really an issue. Unless your specifically coming from an NKRO board and game using a cluster other then WASD, you may have a problem. It all comes down to just trying the board out.

Thanks for the reply guys!

What it wont make me any better? Damn....

I was just interested in some feedback, as I am a complete n00b when it comes to keyboards / mice.

It was a big step for me 3 years ago moving from wireless back to wired! lol

Thanks again.
