ARGHHHHH Why wont you stay stable @Core i5 750

Hey guys.

I've been doing a bit of reading up because I bought a Zalman WB5 block today for my i5. Ive got it to go at 4.0ghz but for some reason it will fail within the first 6 minutes of Prime95. Here is my specs:

Core i5 750 @4.0ghz 20x200
Gigabyte P55-UD4
Vcore: 1.40
Vtt:1.370
PLL:1.90
QPI: 32x
Ram: 1200Mhz rated at 1333mhz
Ram ratio at: 6
Ram timings at 9-9-9 @1.65 volts
Turbo/C1E/C3 C6 State/Thermal Monitor/EIST:they are all disabled

It seems more stable if i give it 1.425v but my cooling seems to heat up past 85c which is not recommended. Its also a very early i5 as I am a early adopter. Its usually a single core that fails then gradually as time goes on more seem to drop off. If you need more information let me know!

It seems to pass 20 runs of LinX but cant stay stable in Prime95.

Your vtt is too high for 1200mhz ram speed, back that down to 1.25v. Also, your PLL is way too high. Back that down to 1.75v.

Backing those two down may put you into stable, and you may be able to back down from 1.4v after you lower those two. If your still unstable, backing those two voltages down may have lowered your temps enough to up the cpu volts to become stable.

However, have you tried resetting your block? Those temps seem high, you may have gotten a bad mount.

Hey thanks for the reply!

I backed down those two values and it seems to have dropped the temps by about 5c! So thats one problem fixed Aside from that it failed the test after about test 3 so it didn't last long, but I'm going to up the Vcore again when I get around to it.

I hate to double post, but I've only gotten 1 reply and the problem hasnt really resolved itself.

Update: It seems I've gotten it to stabalise at 4.0ghz with 1.425v, but now the issue of heat remains. I decided to reseat my block and my cpu only had a modest helping of paste. So I gave it seconds and thirds. I've also found out that my radiator is super restrictive so I need to get cfm fans.

Yeah, I'm having trouble getting my i5 750 stable at 4.0GHz as we speak.
It's currently running Prime95 with the following settings:

Core i5 750 @ 4.0GHz (20x200)
ASRock P55 Extreme
VCore: 1.375 (1.36 in CPU-Z)
VTT: 1.335
PLL: 1.854
Ram: 1066 CL7 running at 1200 CL9 @ 1.55V
All power saving modes disabled.

It ran 1 hour stable at prime95, and so I went to work. Looking forward to getting home and seeing the results.

vtt is still too high.

here are my specs :

core i5 750 ->

190x21
vcore 1.328
vtt 1.24
pll 1.80
vdimm 1.63 @1520mhz (rated 1333), timings 9-9-9-24

as you can see I have a lower vtt with higher clocked mem. if I raise vtt to 1.27 or higher, I am no longer stable.

try using an odd multi, can you get a 21x multi with that chip?

19 would prob force your baseclock up too high

apparently, yes.

and yes, 19 is fairly unstable, but I saw no difference between 20 and 21 honestly.

Here are my 24/7 settings: 15 runs IBT stable.

Core i5 750 @ 4.20GHz (21x200)
MB: P55a-UD7
VCore: BIOS 1.3525 (Idle 1.36, Load 1.396 in CPUZ)
LLC Level 2 enabled
VTT: 1.22
PLL: Auto
Ram: 1600 CL8 @ 1.64v (Ram ratio 8)
All power saving modes disabled.

For 4.0Ghz, I drop my vcore only to 1.28v in BIOS and its stable.

I can never get never get my vcore below 1.39~ otherwise it wont boot. Also my gigabyte wont let me put on a odd multiplier i try to get it on 21 but it wont stay. Ill try lowering my VTT back down to 1.27 but here is a update.

My loop is:

Jingway DC-12000 800l/hr
Zalman WB5-Plus
EK Reservoir
Black Ice GTS360 (3 fans on top, 2x Yate's 1x CoolerMaster, 1x 200MM CM on the bottom)
HAF 932

My Hardware is:
Core i5 4.0ghz 200x20
Vcore: 1.41250
VTT: 1.310
PLL: 1.860
GA-P55-UD4

At the moment its only a cpu loop and when i run Prime95 i seem to get temps around 80c.
