[KG] Radeon HD 6990 revealed in KitGuru Lab - Page 3

That cooler is terrible.

If I was ever going to buy this, it'd be with an aftermarket cooler only.

I'd hate to think what sorts of temps that GPU to the hard drive side of the case would reach under serious load. Probably somewhere in the high 80C degrees, not to mention being noisy as hell.

Interesting considering the custom 5970's that were made and were OCed from the factory had the same design.

Buddy calm down. I wasn't disrespecting your card or something, but at least your card (stock version) has the fan at the other end to push as much air as possible outside the case from both GPUs as well as the VRMs and power circuitry and it was still not efficient enough at cooling 2 GPUs because it was loud. All I'm saying is this new card needs at least 2 fans at cooling it in order to cool it effectively and be as quiet as possible while doing it. With a cooler like this on it, it'd run way better and I'd definitely consider it with that sort of design on it.

If you're talking bout the second one, even a 6870ish card should max it just fine.

No I didn't mean that. Believe me, having the fan in the middle is a better design, much better than mine. The problem being that the gpu and VRM(on my card) next to the fan will get nice cool air, however, that air is now hot. Now you are cooling the next gpu/VRM with hot air and now have a problem.

This 6990 design is better because the VRMs are now in one place and are right next to the fan. Second, each gpu is going to have equally cool air.

But yes, that gigabyte design would work, I actually have an AC 5970 extreme cooler on my card and it is pretty much the same thing.

Independent testing has shown time and again, that if you take 2 equally matched gamers and get them to play each other on identical systems, across a variety of games – then the system with 3 screens tends to win. You can swap the subjects back and forth between the two set-ups, but the additional peripheral vision gives enough of an advantage as to skew the results in favour of the person with the most screens.

What if that person's a noob?
