Metro 2033, not exactly WOW!

After reading so many reviews on this game and reading that the graphics are insane I decided to get a copy. I hoped on steam and pre ordered Homefront for just $10 than getting Metro alone. I launched Metro up, put everything on max, Anti-Aliasing as AAA (4xmsaa would give me low frame rates! Very noticeable to me) and was getting a good frame rate. Game was smooth as butter. Problem is after playing 4 hours I still haven't seen the amazing graphics. The environment doesn't look as good as it could. Also I know this is a book and all but the story is kinda weak up to where i am at. Im having trouble staying interested. Which really sucks. I wan't to enjoy this game but some parts seem over thought and try so hard to scare me. The setting of the game is not great for this. I think the developer could have done a better job. I am a little let down with this game. I expected at least something that was fun but not even. Plus that gun that you start out with is just crap. This made the game really annoying. I was using the pistol most of the time. And when i did use that smg(if you could call it that) i felt like i was fighting with a paint ball. I joked with my nephew and asked "what are these people fighting with? They would be better of just punching each other!" I don't know if maybe it is me but this game was a total let down. And the story is, meh at best. Maybe I can force myself through the game so that this purchase wasn't a total waste. I hope Homefront doesn't do this.

I don't understand how you thought Metro2033 was anything like world of warcraft.

I felt the same way. I'm waiting for my 6950 to come in (should be here later today) to turn up the eye candy but I'm not impressed.

I spent the $10 from the sale, added the key in and nada. The Russian accents blow hard too. Seriously, why can't they ever get good voice actors?

Not sure what's going on, perhaps you were expecting too much but from my experience Metro definitely has some beautiful scenes. Most of the topside stuff is meh.. but most of the tunnels, especially when you get to the part where there is glowing fungus is quite spectacular.

I actually really like the story and setting for the first bit... but the game really started to bog down and I've never bothered to finish it, so for the most part I agree with your assessment.

Yea all around the game is a little held back. I don't know about the accents I know only one Russian and she speaks English with barely any accent. The eye candy is lacking, it's no batman. I think the game was rushed. And if it wasn't well, that is sad. Maybe Metro 2034 will be better. This is after all just the first release the developers have ever done. Great for first time but definitely needs improvement to call their game AAA titles. Who cares maybe they were developing for the 360 and ported this over and the next will be the same. Us PC gamers seem to get the shaft a lot of times. I wish there were some engine that would produce depending on deployment. Why doesn't everyone just use high resolution textures to begin with and scale down from there. Consoles look like crap compared to proper pc games any day.

Game play is already getting repetitive, I think Crysis did it best, kill humans, tanks, helicopters and then, out of nowhere, aliens. I wasn't expecting aliens at all, I thought (for a short while) that it was some Korean tech. The nanosuit really made that game! Nanosuits in all games until it is played out!

Your not seeing the awesome graphics? The prologue has to be the most cinematically impressive scenes I've seen in a game(both graphically and what happens).

Now I will agree with you that it does drag on a bit but it is a brilliant game. It is a completely different game to most on the market though so it may be a bit boring to some people

I like the action and the environment but only the first couple times. After a while it just blends into it, it's like there is one major objective and nothing in between. Maybe when I look at Crysis an ancient game by tech terms its hard to believe that it can still go neck and neck with newer games. Maybe from now on I will lower my expectations a bit.

Personally felt like the graphics were amazing. Great lighting, really well realised world. High levels of detail. Heck, just look at the gloves on your guy as he holds a weapon. Little strings and everything coming off them. Beautiful game. Story is a little dry but I enjoyed the gameplay. Challenging. Weapons don't always hit where you aim which is part of the lore. They build there own weapons and make there own ammo. Hence it being weak. Shoot your currency if you really want to inflict damage.

Dont know about you.... But IMO Metro 2033 is one of the best games arround, i love that game an it looks gorgeous on full settings, i really dont know how you can see it, everyone i have shown loves the game to bits an think the graphics are from a cutscene rather than in game.
