No, not overkill at all. In fact, it's the bare minimum amount of RAM I'd consider, even on a netbook. While netbooks are notorious for being slow processor-wise, but if you like the advantages of prefetch/superfetch (i.e., you don't want your computer to be even slower without them), then it's pretty much a no-brainer that you'd want as much RAM as possible.

Yes, there are those who would say you can get away with only one GB on a netbook--and they're probably right if you want to run XP, but there's really no point in doing that these days.

I repaired a EEE pc, it had 1.5GB RAM and run Windows 7 ULTIMATE fine, nearly as fast as my Pentium 4 HT with 3GB RAM.
