The Nook Color is about half of that, and is basically a Galaxy Tab running at 800MHz once you root it and side load the marketplace. You'll have to import it from the US though. Here's an eBay UK link: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Barnes-and-Noble-NookColor-Reader-Nook-Color-UK-Plug-/250772114631?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a632eccc7#ht_2486wt_907

Another option is the Archos 70 or 101.

[ame="http://www.amazon.co.uk/ARCHOS-70-GB-Internet-Tablet/dp/B00422SH5C/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1298923764&sr=1-1"]ARCHOS 70 8 GB Internet Tablet: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics[/ame]

[ame="http://www.amazon.co.uk/ARCHOS-10-1-16-Internet-Tablet/dp/B00422TXZA/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1298923764&sr=1-3"]ARCHOS 10.1 16 GB Internet Tablet: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics[/ame]

Not quite the same value, but still pretty decent.

If you can cough up the extra dough for the Wi-Fi only Xoom, it's worth it. The Galaxy Tab is a tablet running a phone OS, not worth it. The Nook Color requires some work to turn it into a tablet, but CAN get Honeycomb. Just not the highest performer. It might be a good idea to wait a few months, the tablet market is exploding right now because Motorola just dropped Xoom, and i know HP, LG, HTC, and Samsung are all working on Honeycomb tablets.

This, I've posted this in every thread thats to do with tablets, wait. The sheer amount of tablets being released in the next six months is insane.

Its nearly 3 times the price of the Nook though.

The wifi only XOOM isn't even out yet (and looks to cost £150 more than the OP wants). I actually just bought the nook color for myself, since Barnes and Noble Ebay store has a $50 off coupon code. My sister got one as well a while back and had me put Froyo on it (honeycomb is not ready for someone of little technical skill/tolerance for betas). The few times I've been over, I played with it and it's been awesome. At $200, it's not likely going to be hard to sell it again at or near what I paid for it. Heck, I could probably turn around and sell it as soon as I get it for profit. Not sure how expensive it would be for OP to import, but if it's not much, it's a great value. Overclock to 1.1Ghz, and it should be faster than the tab even. Much better screen than the Archos' as well.

The nook seems to be the best value now. You don't get the fancy features like Cell internet, GPS, Cameras, etc, and you have to take about 15 minutes to flash everything, but it's quality.

And so far, every announced tablet worth anything in the next 6 months is well out of the OP's price range. At that price, he won't be getting a tegra 2. Heck, he's lucky B&N released something that powerful at the price they did. Cheaper than the Archos, and every comparison I've seen favors the nook.

It will drop the price of current tablets though, which is where the benefit of waiting is.

Like I said in the other thread, the tab is likely to never be $200 new. Ever. It will also likely never get the dev community of the nook. If GPS and cameras aren't important, I see no reason to wait.
