New Video Card

Thread Starter
Right now I have a ATI 4890 1GB. I am looking for a new video card. This time I want to go Nvidia because I want these features.

NVIDIA CUDA Technology with CUDA C/C++, DirectCompute 5.0 and OpenCL Support
NVIDIA PhysX technology

I render HD video all the time! I need the Cuda Feature so i'm not waiting on my 3.2Ghz Quad.

I was thinking of getting this. Do I need to spend more?

Probably not

I use my cards for a lot of video related stuff and when it comes to software that utilizes CUDA. It helps so much compared to my x3 at 2.8! so a 470 has a much higher CUDA score and you'll be just fine

Off subject from my fist post but what do you use for rendering. I use Sony Vegas Pro 10 64 Bit. With the Sony AVC encoder.

If you were doing it without CUDA in the first place then it is hard to judge what you really "need" to spend, since obviously you don't need any of it at all.

470 is still a very relevant card in the midrange market, and I think it would do just fine for you seeing as literally anything is an upgrade, but this happens to be a good card.

Well you can test it on some plugins since they let you disabled GPU rendering if you want.

I would say that a 470 would effectively be the most up to date and powerful piece of your system if you upgraded to one, if that helps to put it in perspective for you. I think it's a good compromise between price and performance for you

For the price, and since you render videos a lot, the 470 is the best choice here. The extra CUDA cores are what's key here. While a 560 might outperform it in games, for the most part anyway, the 470 can handle rendering easier and such and still handles games like they're nothing.
