Best Windows 7 temperature app?

Thread Starter
Hi Everyone,

This is the first system I've built in a long time. Last one I built I think was a pentium 4..before that I built a 486 based system (long time ago)..I want to run tests of the processor and from what I've read Prime95 is the program I want to use correct? I'd like to watch the temp of my i7-970 processor for the tests. What is a reliable (and free) Windows 7 app that will keep a record of my processor temperature? Any advice when I do the test? I was going to do setup test run of about 1 hour, just to make sure my temperature doesn't get to crazy, then I was going to do a 24 test. I'd like the app to keep temps for the entire run, maybe give me an average temp of the run.

I don't plan on overclocking yet, but I will hopefully be running my memory at 1333. Have a few kinks I have to work out of the new build first.

Thanks for any help..

Coretemp or Realtemp both work well. I use Coretemp.

I would recommend using coretemp. It is light and straight to the point. I always keep it opened in my system tray so I can monitor my temps all the time.

As for the stress testing. Use prime 95 or Linx. Coretemp won't give you an average temp. It shows you your current temp , lowest temp and highest temp. That is all you need. Just monitor the highest temp and make sure it does not surpass 80. Run the test for as long as you can. For just testing temps, 1 hour is fine. But for testing stability later on, run it for 24 hours.

HW-Monitor is also pretty good ^^

But I prefer Speedfan, cause you can control your fans with that program too ^^

OK Guys, please take a look at my test results. I ran the program Prime95 for exactly 1 hour. How are my temps?
