Difference between Corsair Dominator C8 and C8D?

Thread Starter
I'm in the market to step up to a 64 bit copy of Windows 7 so it's about time for me to get a 6gb kit of RAM and I stumbled upon the Corsair Dominators. I know alot of you swear by these things so I figured I would come to you and ask this question.

Newegg has listed two different sets of Corsair Dominators in my price range (~ $120) the C8 6gb kit and the C8"D" 6gb kit.

All the specs seem to be the same and they are both CL8 kits with all the same specs so I really would like to know what in the sam hell is the difference between the two kits.

HALP!

Only thing I could think of is that the "D" is a revision of some sort. But the fact that there are 500+ reviews of the D and 33 of the regular p/n kind of destroys that logic.

I don't want to end up picking the wrong one. Gah. mad.gif

Get the D, simply because there are more reviews

Well I figured as much too. But what if it's that the D was the original and they made a revision to some faulty aspect of the sticks and that's where they stand now.

I'd rather get a more concrete opinion as to what the hell the difference is.

Thanks for your help though.

Different part #s, probably basically the same kit, different version, made with different ICs.
I have a kit with the same TR3X6G1600C8D as the c8 kit & it kinda sucks for overclocking.

Checked Corsair's website and it seems that the CMP6GX3M3A1600C8 model is newer and has the DHX Pro technology built in, for use with the Airflow Pro sensor display. The TR3X6G1600C8D is apparently the older model, and does not support DHX Pro. Everything else looks the same.

Here's a link to the model info, if you're curious.

I would give Rep to you FtW 420 but apparently I can't.

Thanks for clearing this up guys. I guess I'll try out the newer ones in hopes that the IC's are better than the "D" p/n.

Also what did you mean they suck for overclocking? Speed wise or tightening the timings?

Right now my kit is 7-9-7-24. Would this kit be an upgrade since the timings are more consistent or should I get another kit of Mushkin @ 6-9-7-24? Or would getting a kit that is that inconsistent a nono?

A little of both for the dom. 1600 cl8 kit, topped out at the stock timings under 1800Mhz, since I bench I didn't want to have to drop the mem multi, & they didn't like to tighten up too well either.
I have a mushkin kit with the same ICs as the blacklines, stock 7-8-7 but would run 6-8-6 at the stock V pretty happily, & the PSC chips do overclock for frequency really well.
Can't really find much better new than PSC anymore, unless you can get some used BBSE or hypers but they are pricey, not really worth it except for benching.
