Yay for flawed logic. A sound card is not just for processing. In fact, your best quality sound card wont even touch the audio stream. Good cards will use better quality digital to analogue converters, OpAmps and power circuitry to provide a cleaner, crisper and richer sound. A good card should not touch the audio stream so as not to change the wave or alter the quality. So a sound card can make a huge difference.

If you have poor speakers/headphones, you probably won't notice a sound card. But anything worth over 50GBP or so will probably make the difference clear. I personally noticed a massive difference going from onboard to an xfi, then to a Xonar then to a standalone DAC.

hopefully they integrate all the sounds into user controlled sounds and not just background sounds like some games.

BC2 has the best sound of any game I have ever played. Looks like BF3 won't disappoint.

One that I really love is in Vietnam, Hill 187, when attacking/defending the first two objectives, the sound of the F-4 Phantoms bombing the hill is amazing. Such a cool map, when advancing to the second set of objectives you see the completely bombed out hamburger hill.

O.T. for some reason while watching the guy talk I was reminded of SNL and Mike Myers as Dieter, "would you like to pet my monkey?" lol.
