Phenom II X3 (Unlock) Overclock for SCII & CS5

This is my first hombuilt PC that I compiled out of an old ATX tower that had OLD AMD/BioStar MiniATX components in it and right around the time StarCraft II was coming out I decided to build something that would handle that and MW2 and various other games -as well as- let me do some photo editing in Photoshop CS5 and other ish like that.

Until last week, I never bought an after-market CPU cooler! Original parts were ordered July 2010!

CPU: AMD Phenom II X3 720 Black Edition Heka 2.8GHz HDZ720WFK3DGI - OEM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103652
MoBo: Gigabyte GA-890XA-UD3(Rev2.0) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128438
RAM: Mushkin Enhanced Blackline 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Model 996781 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820226101
GPU: GIGABYTE GV-R577SO-1GD Radeon HD 5770 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814125327
PSU: OCZ Fatal1ty OCZ550FTY 550W http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817341022
HDD: 320GB WD Blue Caviar; Dual-Booting win7x86 and Ubuntu 10.10x64

totaled me $650. I didn't need a Case, Keyboard/Mouse, Screen (although I still want one), or speakers (older Altec Lansings).

So, I re-used the old CPU heatsink from my OLD AMD Spempron?? chip. Tried to unlock and was successful but the temps were too high and I never OC'd or ran benches.

COOLING: I just got the Tuniq Tower Cpu Cooler!

Maybe a bit overkill? I'm running 3 cores 1.34V @ 3.3Ghz w/ temps 15C~21C

Want pics/proof? let me know, I already posted some other places but thought that I should log this and keep record + this is kind of a unique build, considering the Board/CPU/RAM combo, no?

PROBLEMS: BSOD when going over 3.3Ghz w/ VCore @ 1.344V (as of CPU-Z)

Results: IntelBurnTest shows Gflops as 24.77, 24.53, 24.37, 26.16, 26.26; Which is pretty low if you ask me... I'm going to try messing with the RAM because the default timings are off from what I've read on NewEgg feedback.

Old parts? Like your 890XA-UD3?
Sigh it aint old lol, also thought that the TT120 was outperformed by the TRUE120/Megahalm thingy
But start to unlock that 4th core and crank out the Mhz

I want to but I'm getting BSOD's all over the place. I have unlocked the 4th core and added +0.0250 to the VCore, IntelBurn is giving 29 GFlops now, so that's a nice increase... I'm back at stock clock speeds though and now that I've lost all ability to monitor the core, idk how far I can push the system but, there seems to be only a 3-4C increase in temp when referring to the TMPIN0-2.

Seems like increasing voltages solves all this board's problems.

Im still getting errors/failures in OCCT and win7 gives me a BSOD every now and again. I dropped my clock speed down to 3.0Ghz and my Vcore to 1.425V

How can I OC my unlocked 720 BE to 3.2-3.4Ghz? I can give screenshots of my BIOS setup if that'd help!

Without having seen/messed with it myself, I can't say for sure, but your chip may be at its limit. My X3 740 ran unlocked at 3.6Ghz at stock voltage with my Hyper 212+ for a few months, then I started getting errors. I bumped it down to 3.4ish and left it there for awhile, but I'm currently running it as a 3-core at stock 3.0Ghz. That board is a pretty solid overclocker, so the CPU may be the limiting factor here.
