hi guys, today my h70 is arrived and i want to start to OC my cpu;im noob on OC^^.Now my bios is set up to default, in your opinion which can be the best configuration for a daily use? 3,6ghz 3,8ghz or 4,0ghz?

This is my pc build:

Corsair Obsidian 800D
Asus Rampage III Extreme
Intel i7 950
Corsair H70
Asus GTX 570
Corsair HX 850W
Dominator GT 2x4GB 2000MHZ
SSD Vertex II 120 GB - WD 2TB Caviar Green

i hope u can help me^^ thanks^^

Try to get the highest OC you can with the Vcore/Temps you are most comfortable with. A lot of people, including myself, prefer a Vcore under 1.35v and temps under 75C. If you want specifics, there are many guides available, just run a search for i7 overclocking. If you need RIIIE specifics then you can ask me. I had the Extreme mobo and am on the Gene version now.

for a daily use what clock for cpu is better?
4 ghz is more than youll need for everyday use.. Plus you can probably reach it with a vcore of 1.26 or under. Voltages and heat rise dramatically to be stable over that..

All chips are different.

My 950 wont get stable at 4 gHz until 1.33 v core, and I've tried 10 different ways to get there. That's starting to get a little too hot for my taste, with my modest cooling, especially when summer arrives, but it will run happily at 3.8 with 1.22, so all you can do is keep tweaking to find out where yours will take you.

Your 950 can't get stable at 4.0 with 1.33V? That doesn't sound like the normal factory-chip variation, that sounds like a straight up bad chip.

Nevermind. I wasn't aware that the newer 950s sometimes required that much more.

You've adjusted your other voltages, right? QPI/VTT/DRAM, etc.
yes, in several different set ups. Like you said, it may not be a good chip, or it just needs heavy voltage. I've read a lot on it, and it's not that unusual, especially with the newer 950's. They often seem to need more v than the 920 and 30 did to get to the same speeds. I've also seen a few guys where that said th ey needed a big jump to get over the 4 ghz mark, and then things smoothed out and their chips went upwards of 4.5. But who knows, this is the internet. I take it all with a grain of salt.

Mine is pretty much same, needs 1.34 for 4.0 GHz and 1.39 for 4.2 GHz.

I feel lucky, I need right over 1.2 volts to be stable at 4 GHz with pretty much the same setup Other GFX card and RAM but same cpu mobo and cooler!

Seems like it's pretty common with the newer 950s, but some people still get lucky

like him. man, I wish i was lucky too. Oh well, i only paid $200 bucks for it, so even if it breaks, no huge loss, and then maybe i can find a cheap 970.
